Avilla R-XIII Re-Opening Message From Mr. Cruzan

AVILLA R-XIII SCHOOL DISTRICT
August 5, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Every fall, the anticipation of starting school brings a great deal of excitement and hope. Unfortunately, as we consider a return to school this fall, the global COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new challenges for in-person instruction and in-person gatherings. In consideration of these challenges, the staff and administration of Avilla Schools have been working to develop a Re-Entry Plan for the Fall of 2020.
Under this plan, the Avilla School District will make every reasonable effort to minimize risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other infectious illnesses for our students and staff. Our school is designed to educate students through social, face-to-face interactions in relatively close spaces and in large groups. The benefits of this approach to education are well accepted, and our collective experiences this past spring confirm students’ needs to be in school. We know our patrons prioritize student and staff safety and expect a thoughtful re-entry plan.
As we plan for a school year likely to be continuously impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the priorities we hold are:
- Providing environments that are as safe as possible for students and staff;
- Providing equitable, guaranteed and viable education to all students;
- Providing for the physical, mental, emotional and educational needs of our students to the highest degree possible.
The enclosed plan was developed with feedback from the Jasper County Health Department, as well as District Administration, Teachers and Support Staff. Due to the ever changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, this plan may receive edits prior to and throughout the beginning of school. The District will communicate any changes through our website and the school’s Facebook page.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Russ Cruzan
Superintendent of Schools
