Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant
September 12, 2022
The Avilla School District is among 32 school districts selected to participate in the Missouri Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) program.
The federal grant was awarded to 11 states. Missouri secured $18 million and that money is being divided up to promote literacy across different geographic regions, including the rural Avilla community.
This program is designed to improve literacy efforts for the students within the district and to complement DESE’s commitment to literacy under the agency’s Show-Me-Success plan.
The goal at Avilla is to prevent students from falling behind due to a lack of literacy skills. “We have been fortunate enough to receive this outstanding literacy grant for our 5th-8th grade students. I am excited to begin working with the administration, staff and DESE to implement a research-based literacy plan that will provide the support, strategies, and professional development needed to bring high-quality literacy instruction to our students,” said Nicole Eisensee, Avilla Upper Elementary ELA Teacher and Grant Team Leader.
