Accelerated Reader (AR) Information
All fourth graders have now set their AR goals for 1st quarter. Your child’s AR grade will be a small part of your child’s grade in reading. The AR grade is the average of three separate goals: percentage correct, book level, and points. All three goals must be met for a child to meet the AR goal for the quarter.
Your child’s book level goal is based on the results of the STAR test which was given earlier this month. All students will have the same percentage goal of 85%. The point goal is based on your child’s ZPD range and the number of days of reading practice in the quarter. Since we got a late start in 1st quarter, the point goals are smaller than usual.
Two copies of your child’s AR goal sheet for 1st quarter are attached to these papers. Please sign and return one copy, and keep the other copy at home.
I will send an AR progress note home in late September or early October so you will be able to check your child’s progress toward the goals. (I will do this around the middle of every quarter.) You can also monitor your child’s progress from your home computer using Renaissance Home Connect. (Information about this was sent home earlier this month.)
